Time to Celebrate
{On August 20, 2014 I posted this on Facebook.}
Yesterday my best friend died. I have had plenty of time to beg, plead, and hope for God’s healing hand to rest upon my dad. But now it is Job’s words that rests upon my lips: “The Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.”So now it is time to CELEBRATE.
Let us celebrate a man who honored, worshipped, and trusted God. Let us celebrate a Christ-follower who boldly shared his faith. Let us celebrate a husband who loved, cherished, and served his wife. Let us celebrate a father who sacrificially poured his life into his children. Let us celebrate a mentor who leveraged countless hours challenging, instructing and sharpening every person he met with. Let us celebrate a teacher who passionately taught the Bible. Let us celebrate a leader who lifted high the bar of integrity and honesty.
Today, I celebrate my dad, my best friend. I already deeply miss him. But I know that his life lives on through me and every life he impacted.
Dad, tonight your body is whole. Your smile is illuminating heaven. You are sitting with your Heavenly Father, worshiping Him face to face.
Hug my son for me.
Until we meet again . . .
